I have the same "balls-out-bike-jack" (as me and my buddies call it) that David K. got from Sam's. You could put a Boss Hoss on it! I just used it for the first time last weekend.
I of course encountered the same problem. I screwed on this square metal adapter that came with it. That got me a bit closer to fitting. Then I put a 1 X 6 board across that. I jacked it up from the rear half of the engine/frame area. It worked okay, pretty stable.
But I did decide I needed to find a new board or something. David's bread thing might work (how the hell did you ever come up with that!? Bread, bikes, what's the connection!? ;-). I'm also thinking of just getting a custom size board and mounting it to the jack so I won't have to mess around when I want to lift it.
